Schema markup in plain English
Schema markup is a block of structured data, written in JSON-LD, that tells search engines and AI tools exactly what a page is about: this is a local business at this address, this is a product at this price, these are the questions this page answers. It doesn't change what visitors see. It takes the guesswork out for machines.
29 types, ready to paste
Choose a type, fill in the fields and copy the JSON-LD. The generator covers the types most sites need: Organization, LocalBusiness, Person, WebSite, Article and BlogPosting, Product and Offer, Service, FAQPage, HowTo, Event, Recipe, VideoObject, Course, JobPosting, SoftwareApplication, Review and more.
Three rules that keep schema useful
- Match the visible content. Markup should describe what's on the page. Prices, ratings and FAQs visitors can't see can lead Google to ignore your markup.
- Connect the pieces. Give your Organization an
@id, list your official profiles insameAsand reference the organization from articles and services. That's how AI tools learn who you are. - Validate before publishing. Test the code in Google's Rich Results Test or the Schema.org validator after adding it.
Rich results aren't guaranteed (Google decides when to show them), but correct, connected schema is one of the clearest ways to tell search engines and AI assistants what a page is about.

Frequently asked questions
JSON-LD or microdata?
JSON-LD. Google recommends it, it keeps markup separate from your HTML and it's easier to maintain.
Will schema improve my rankings?
Not directly. It helps search engines understand and present your page, and it can earn rich results. It also gives AI tools clear facts about your business.
Can I use several types on one page?
Yes, for example Organization, WebPage, BreadcrumbList and FAQPage together. Link them with @id references where it makes sense.
Is FAQ schema still worth adding?
Google limits FAQ rich results to a small set of sites, but the markup still tells AI tools clearly which questions you answer. Only mark up FAQs that are visible on the page.
Need schema on hundreds of pages?
Use the Dynamic Schema Generator to create a template that fills in each page's values automatically.
