llms.txt is a plain Markdown file at yoursite.com/llms.txt that gives AI tools a short, curated map of your site: your name, a one-line summary and sections of links with a few words about each. It was proposed in 2024 (llmstxt.org) so AI assistants and agents don't have to dig through menus, scripts and cookie banners to find your important pages.
llms.txt is a proposal, not a standard. Google has said it doesn't use it, and the major AI assistants haven't confirmed reading it, though coding tools and some AI agents do. It takes about 15 minutes, so it's a cheap bet. What matters more for AI answers is letting AI search crawlers in, writing pages that answer questions directly and having clean structured data.

Each one says what it is, why it matters and how to fix it, and the line-by-line view explains every line.
Fix names, add a few words to each important link and keep the 20 to 80 pages that matter most.
Save it as llms.txt in your site's root folder (next to robots.txt) and check it again.
No. It isn't a ranking factor, and Google doesn't use it. It may help AI agents and tools that read it find your best pages.
An optional companion file with the full text of your key pages in one place. llms.txt stays a short index.
Your main services or products, pricing, about and contact pages, and your most useful guides. Put less important pages in an "## Optional" section.
Some SEO plugins (Yoast, Rank Math, AIOSEO) can. Check it here either way, since generated files often list everything.
Yes.
AI Search Readiness sets up AI crawler rules, llms.txt, connected schema and pages that answer questions plainly, with a baseline of how often ChatGPT and others mention you.
